No Hassle Holidays: Home Sweet and Simple: Wave Your Magic Wand

Yesterday we chatted about sprucing up your command center, your kitchen and getting in shape for the holidays.  Now let's take the next step. Take your pretend magic wand and go room by room through your home. Let's make this quick.

One of the biggest issues with a room is clutter.  It would be nice to wave your magic wand and make it disappear.  Since that doesn't seem to be an option:

1. Go room by room and look around.

What doesn't need to be in there?  Does it look nice and neat?  Even a small room can look large in a matter of minutes if you just get rid of the junk or clutter.

We all hang on to stuff but I am a firm believer that if you share (things you really don't want and probably won't use)blessings come back to you.  Pick a charity and give them your extra.

2.Basket or box the extra!

Quickly skim your room and put the items that are cluttering up your room in your basket or box. If it doesn't fit in your basket, perhaps you have an old chair or ottoman that has to go, move it to a corner of the room.  You can move the heavy stuff with the help of family members or a friend once you have decided on everything that goes so you can take it out to the garage until you haul it away or call a charity to come and pick it up.

3.Make it quick!

Take inventory each room in the house as you walk through.  Give yourself a time limit on each room in your house.  Now if you have a lot of clutter, do this in a couple of days instead of one so you are not totally overwhelmed.  You just want to get rid of the stuff that you don't need in a room.  It doesn't have to take very long.  Put on some music and get cracking!

4.Put it altogether.

Have a central location to put all the clutter you are donating. Put it closest to the door where you will be loading into your car.  Maybe the garage will work better but don't be tempted to leave it in your garage!  Get rid of it soon!

5.Involve Your Family.

You don't have to do it alone!  Have a family night where you call your hubby and all the kids together.  Make it fun and make it a game.  Work together.

Keep up the good work.  You will have your home in good condition and ready for the fun part of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in no time!  Once you have decluttered it will seem like you took your magic wand and made it magically disppear!  Reward yourself with a moment to sit and enjoy what you have accomplished!  On to the next part of getting your home ready for the holidays without a lot of hassle!
